BAT Workshop

At the workshop we were sponsored in terms of bus fare every Monday.Art materials were provided by BAT through the National Gallery of Zimbabwe.All this was done after Paul Wade, our instructor then, had identified great talent in almost all of the team, which was diverse in talent, comprising fellow students from Malawi, Mozambique, Botswana and Zimbabwe. I recall our instructor admitting that what we could do in first our year he could still not match that after he completed his training in the UK.The workshop really moulded us and we owe it all to the benevolence of BAT!

Apart from live figure drawing which we did almost every day, we were exposed to the great art masters after which we were tasked to study a master of your choice and I studied Georges Rouault, a French painter of the 18th century. While at the workshop Luke Toronga and I were commissioned to do a mural of wildlife in Hwange for a resort place in Victoria Falls done in oils on board.

1985.  I was asked by Paul Wade to do freelance illustration work at the CDU, Ministry of                    Education in Mount Pleasant.

1986.  Completed Fine Art training at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe’s BAT Workshop.

1986.  Nominated to do further studies in Graphic Art and Design at the Harare Polytechnic

1987.  Awarded a Bursary by Graphiti Design Consultants to study Graphic Design at the                    Harare Polytechnic

1988.  Attached to Zimbabwe Publishing House (ZPH) as a book illustrator

1989.  Attached to Cellophane Packaging (CPL) as a designer

1990.  Joined Linsell Advertising as a Designer

1991.  Joined Action Magazine as an Illustrator and Designer
